Mid-century glamour and a wine poker table: inside The Big Betty Night in Lisbon

By 7 pm on 29 September 2026, the first day of SBC Summit Lisbon was over. The official Opening Party was drawing a crowd elsewhere in the city. At Palacete Virtvs, Betty’s partners arrived as the sun set over Lisbon.

Big Betty Partners had taken over the 19th-century mansion for The Big Betty Night, a private evening with entry by guest list. Demand for an invitation had reached ten times the house’s capacity. For those arriving at the door, an evening of wine poker, live strings and cabaret lay ahead.

An evening at Palacete Virtvs

The team had spent the afternoon preparing the house at Rua Júlio de Andrade 5. Drinks were chilled, and the pool and the view across the city were waiting for the guests.

The mansion suited Betty’s late-1950s glamour. Its rooms gave her cocktail-lounge aesthetic space to unfold, with guests settling into conversations throughout the house.

The invitation had promised no pitches or agenda. There was no stage and no program calling everyone to attention, so conversations, and the evening itself, could take their time.

Wine poker, live strings and cabaret

At the wine poker table, guests placed chips on the grape variety, vintage, and aging of the wine in their glass. Offering a guess was easy. Putting chips behind it required a little conviction. Every guess came with an explanation, so the table never ran out of things to discuss.

Music from Eluma Strings drifted through the house. The quartet’s violins and cello accompanied the conversations, catching ears during pauses between remarks. Cabaret dancers moved through the rooms, bringing the performance close to the guests. A glance up from a conversation could become a moment spent watching the dancers.

Artists were drawing portraits from guests’ photographs. Guests took the finished drawings home as a keepsake of the night.

Photos to remember, plans for Rome

The next day, Tribuna iGaming wrote about the evening and named The Big Betty Night among the better side events of the week.

Dear partners, thank you for spending that night with us. We’d happily have kept the house for a few hours longer.

See you again soon, darling.
